An Evolving Journey of Transformation

The Butterfly Effect Project is inspired by the idea that even the smallest movement, like the flutter of a butterfly’s wing, can create a huge impact. This project explores the profound outcomes of small actions and transformations. Each year, I focus on a new subject, weaving stories of change, resilience, and growth through ceramic art.

This earlier work in the Butterfly Effect series depicts butterflies as immigrants, carrying stories, memories, experiences and beauty of their culture from their journeys. The installation reflects migration, adaptation, and transformation, inviting viewers to reflect on resilience and cultural narratives.

Each panel of the display stand features butterflies with distinct designs and forms. The right panel presents solid butterflies adorned with gold-coated patterns, symbolizing the rich cultural heritage of the immigrants’ origins. In the middle panel, the butterflies lose their golden patterns and appear as voids, representing transformation and the challenges of transition. Finally, the left panel showcases butterflies in new shapes with renewed golden patterns, reflecting growth within a new environment while preserving their cultural roots.

The base of the stand features handmade vases from the Butterfly Bloom Collection, the Chain Collection, and the Extraordinary Vases Collection. The Butterfly Bloom vases represent the origins of the immigrants, showcasing heritage and culture through colonial-inspired forms enriched with gold-coated details that reference traditional beliefs. The Chain Collection symbolizes the connections between people, cultures, and countries, capturing the bonds formed and carried through the journey of migration. Finally, the Extraordinary Vases, distinguished by their unique, elevated shapes, designs, and finishes, embody the destination, where immigrants bloom again, growing and integrating new cultural influences while preserving their roots.
